This is the bike I’m using in the BMX for beginners series. Why did I choose the SE Everyday? Because it’s inexpensive and really durable. Sure, it doesn’t have a high end bottom bracket or super lightweight parts, but it’s impressive for the price, and holds up well. I bought the 2015 version for $300 in a shop, and since then I’ve seen it at varying prices.
My SE Everyday came with 2 pegs, which accompanied the bike in a bag. Just like you write with your left or right hand, most BMX riders only grind on one side, so they include the pegs separately so you can choose which side they will go on. If you’re using the bike for dirt jumping, or don’t need pegs, you can always just leave them off. If you want to install them, you’ll need a socket set with extension so you can get to the bolt on the inside.
As for maintenance, I needed to add some extra grease to the crank spindle, and tighten everything up a bit. The stem bolts and rear axle were able to tighten down a lot more after adding grease as well. After that, I gave it the beatdown you’ll see in the “BMX for Beginners” series, and it performed admirably. For someone who gets really serious into BMX, or even just a heavy rider, this bike may require some extra maintenance or even some upgraded parts eventually. I think the key point here though is that you CAN upgrade this bike. Every part is pretty standard, and totally serviceable, unlike department store bikes which are riveted and glued together. Therefore, I think the SE Everyday is a solid choice as a budget BMX, given its durability and price.
